SPECIAL FAREWELL TO THE MAJESTIC STENA HSS FERRY - 8 January 2007

The first of many vast skies over East Anglia - this one’s looking north across the River Orwell, close to Shotley.

Further along the River Orwell is Shotley, with its marina, great Shipwreck pub and Ganges museum.

Looking across the many farmer's fields, so abundant within the Shotley Peninsula.

On a clear day, you really can just about see forever - still roaming around the Shotley Peninsula.

Right place, right time - double rainbow over Harwich, taken from outside the Shipwreck pub.

Stiff breeze across the locks by Shotley Marina, looking towards Felixstowe docks.

Anyone for a dip? Not me, that’s for sure!

Looking across the river Deben at Felixstowe Ferry, towards Bawdsey.

Old dry dock at Flatford Mill, stamping ground of the famous painter Constable, who lived close by in East Bergholt.

More restored buildings, now used for field study groups. Close by is a splendid tea room ....

Across the farmer’s fields around Flatford, with the classic hedgerows marking the boundaries.

During a circular walk, we came across this quiet corner of a wildlife lake.

Slighty to the right of the above shot, yet more tranquillity and scenic beauty.

For the moment, a last look at the Suffolk countryside, this one still around the Flatford area ... beyond the trees is Essex.

3 July 2007, 14h35 BST: looking up gives a false sense of pleasant weather . . .

Looking eastwards along the River Orwell gives a better impression of what is coming our way.

Turning around and looking westward makes the bridge look like a toy construction, such huge clouds!

The clouds are being thrown into a fast spin cycle here.

. . . and then it started to come down over Ipswich - at 14h55, just 20 minutes later.

Another viewpoint across Ipswich, with rain and hail coming down at full strength now.

Better head home - any moment now it will catch me out! . . . which it did; had to sit it out in the car for nearly 30 minutes.
